Vetting the Veep

It’ll be any day now that Mitt will announce his choice for Vice President. This is an ode to the potential nominees.

Our candidate is set, now we need a running mate,
But it’s not much longer that we’ll have to wait.
It’s a key position to fill before the race is run,
So let’s look at the contenders and vet them one-by-one.
Marco Rubio’s charisma gave him early consideration,
Warning Obama against making us a ‘deadbeat nation.’
He has the potential to attract the Hispanic vote,
And his American optimism seems to hit the right note.
Paul Ryan is a star on the House Budget Committee,
His tax cut proposals never fail to be witty.
Between work and the gym, he crunches numbers and abs,
On the US economy, he's always keeping tabs.
The next choice is loud  – of course he’s from the Jersey Shore,
Chris Christie in the White House would never be a bore.
He's strong and in charge, but he's sure to make headlines,
Reporters would be ready as they raced toward their deadlines.
Don’t count out Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal,
Who surprises everyone with his deep, Southern drawl.
He had one poor speech, but I say, 'So what?'
Time and again he's shown the fire in his gut.
Perhaps the VP will be Congressman Allen West,
Whose merit is shown by the medals on his chest.
To enemy combatants he's not known to yield,
Serving his country on and off the battlefield.
As for female picks, we have a fair share,
To rudely count them out, no one would dare.
There's Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice,
Who would add to the ticket some sugar and spice.
She knows her foreign policy, she's a keen diplomat,
2005's 'Most Powerful Woman' is not your average bureaucrat.
The force from South Carolina is Governor Nikki Haley,
'A Friend of the Taxpayer,' she cuts spending daily.
This fiscal conservative would keep our money in order,
Pockets would be fuller and bills would be shorter.
From this fine list of candidates we have several to choose,
Who have all seemed to receive more 'yays' than 'boos.'
So, our second-in-charge we're ready to meet,
To finally make our ticket complete.
