It was the Big Gulp heard ‘round the conference.
When former Governor Sarah Palin, speaking at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, took a swig from her supersized soda hiding under the podium, the audience erupted. It was a much-needed jab at New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his failed attempt to ban soft drinks over 16 ounces. The moment was an optimum opportunity to criticize Nanny Bloomberg – and it was perfectly timed.
Palin’s humor, enthusiasm and rip-roaring one-liners never fails to energize her conservative fans. The former governor and vice presidential nominee may not be representing us in Washington anymore, but yesterday Palin proved that she is still a powerful force in the conservative movement. For the second year in a row, she energized the crowd with her unapologetic conservative arguments, humor and a bit of that Alaskan charm.
Although her poke at Mayor Bloomberg must have stung, Palin saved her most biting criticism for the president.
“The president promised the most transparent administration in history. Barack Obama, you lied!”
Palin has never been afraid to voice what the rest of us conservatives are thinking. But, she doesn’t only talk about her conservative values. Her ideals are also lived out in her personal life. Take, for example, her fight for the right to life. Her son Trig, diagnosed with Down syndrome, is a beautiful picture for the pro life movement. He will undoubtedly face struggles through life – but his mother gave him life. The most precious gift a mother can give. It is obvious Trig has blessed the former governor and is a significant addition to the Palin family.
The “lamestream media” can refer to her as stupidor even a “disaster,” but her multiple standing ovations yesterday prove Palin is still a rock star and her inspiring speeches are sweet music to conservative ears.
